My Turbo.264 exports seem unusually slow
Solution If you are using the Turbo.264 hardware with an USB 2.0 port that is built-in to your Mac, then it should be able to reach its optimal encoding speed.

Many USB Hubs, like the one integrated in Apple keyboards, do not support USB 2.0 Full Speed or High Speed connections. They only support USB 1.1. connections. If you are using the Turbo.264 hardware with an USB 1.1. port, then the encoding can never reach the optimal level. It might be as low as 2 fps (frames per second).

Therefore, always use Turbo.264 with an USB 2.0 port, to receive maximum performance.

Also, be aware that Turbo.264 only accelerates applications that use QuickTime to encode to H.264.

This means that it will be much faster than a software encode in QuickTime, but it may be similar to other open source software encoders, that don't use QuickTime. In that case, Turbo.264 still offers significant acceleration, but only when compared to QuickTime.
