How do I recover my lost EyeTV activation key?

Elgato has a database that knows about keys used to register an Elgato product, most keys purchased through Elgato online stores, as well as keys used to create a My EyeTV account (http://my.eyetv.com)

Please try the following link, and enter your email address:

http://my.eyetv.com/lost_keys

We will send you back your activation key via email, if it is in the above mentioned database.

If you get an email response that says your key is not yet available, then please contact us with the following details.

You can download and find instructions for EyeTV Reporter here:

How do I use the EyeTV Reporter utility?

Use the Easy > Backup Preferences command, and then send the zip file that is created to us.

Once we have this file, we will see what we can do to retrieve your key.

If you do NOT currently have a working installation of EyeTV, we would be happy to issue you a new activation key. All we ask is that you provide some proof or documentation verifying your purchase. An example of this might be a scanned receipt, PDF invoice, or email confirmation.

Unfortunately, we are unable to recover key information from hardware serial numbers or product registration. Please note that this technique will only work with a currently running installation of EyeTV. We cannot extract keys from incomplete installations.

If you do not have documentation available, you may need to purchase EyeTV. Our online store is available here.

I lost my EyeTV Lite activation key

Unfortunately, Elgato is unable to provide replacement activation keys for EyeTV Lite. We do not have any available. You can download EyeTV Lite here.

Please contact the hardware manufacturer of your tuner to obtain a new activation key.

Where do I find my activation key?

The EyeTV activation key is a 26-digit code in four sections, and it is found on a blue and white postcard that came with your purchase. See below for an example. Please be sure to check under the foam packaging for this device for this card. Activation keys included with the latest EyeTV Hybrid 2009 are located on the back of the CD jewel case for this item.

Please retain this key in a safe place - you will need it EVERY time you install EyeTV.

I placed my order online and have not yet received my activation key

All EyeTV activation keys are sent out by an automated system less than 15 minutes after the placement of the order. If this key has not yet reached you after this time period has elapsed, please feel free to contact us at sales@elgato.com , and we will assist in getting this information to you as soon as possible.

Please note that our business hours are 9 AM to 5 PM Pacific time, Monday through Friday.

Please check any relevant Spam folders for this message - sometimes our confirmation emails arrive with no problem, while the lengthy alphanumeric activation keys stall the process.

Can I install EyeTV 3 on more than one Mac?

Per the End User License Agreement included in the EyeTV software, each EyeTV activation key allows you to install and use one copy of the Software on a single computer at a time. This License does not allow the Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time. If the Software was included with a Hardware product then this License does not allow you to use the Software with another Hardware product.

Further details concerning the correct licensing of EyeTV can be found on the second screen of the EyeTV 3 Setup Assistant.

My activation key does not work / Next doesn't light up

Most EyeTV installations that fail during the key input phase do so due to user input errors. Please carefully check and recheck to be sure you are not using any O's or Zeros in activation keys - the closest character is D.

U's are flat-bottomed, while V's are pointed. If in doubt, compare this character to the V in EyeTV printed above the key. See below for an example of an EyeTV 3 key that has been decoded into its constituent parts.

Please note that all EyeTV keys should include one block of five letters and/or numbers, followed by three more blocks of seven characters. Please note that the key provided with this article is for example purposes only and is not valid.

If you are still unable to input this information, please send us a scan or photo of this key to http://support.elgato.com so we can assist.

Your EyeTV key is a 26 digit string of letters and numbers. This is different from your proof-of-purchase code - a proof of purchase code will not work as an activation key. EyeTV will not install on any Mac running less than Mac OS 10.4.11.
