Can FireWire EyeTV products work with FireWire 800?
Solution Some newer Macs (like MacBook Pros) only come with FireWire 800 ports.

This faster FireWire 800 interface can also be connected to slower FireWire 400 devices.

When both types of FireWire are connected together, the bus will use the lower speed of FireWire 400 to transmit data.

You can use FireWire 400 devices with FireWire 800 ports, if you buy inexpensive adapter cables.

The adapter cable has two different connectors on each end - one is for FireWire 400, and the other is a FireWire 800 connection. Each type of port has a different shape, so it's not possible to mix them up.

For recent Macs released in 2009, you may also need to use a power supply with the EyeTV product, in order for it to be detected via the FireWire 800 port.

The following EyeTV units can be used with FireWire 400 ports, or with FireWire 800 ports (and an adapter cable):

EyeTV 200
EyeTV 300
EyeTV 310
EyeTV 400
EyeTV 410
EyeTV 500
EyeTV 610
Any EyeTV compatible FireWire hardware (like FireDTV)

These EyeTV products will work exactly the same no matter what FireWire connection is used. The video quality will be the same.
