What do I do if my EyeTV beta is about to expire?
What do I do if my EyeTV beta is about to expire?
Solution
Occasionally, Elgato Systems may make beta (test) software available to users.
Usually, that software is given an expiration date, to encourage users to upgrade to the final version, when it's made available.
Lately, we've been issuing beta software for users in Canada, who want to try out the upcoming TV Guide service for EyeTV's Program Guide.
Users of EyeTV 3.0.5b13, and perhaps a few other builds, may have problems updating to a newer beta, due to a error in the Check For Updates process in EyeTV. This error has already been fixed, but earlier beta software may not let you press the buttons in the Check for Updates window after you receive a warning about EyeTV's upcoming expiration date.
To resolve this, try the following steps:
1) Locate the last full version of EyeTV 3 in your possession. Ideally, that would be EyeTV 3.0.4. It may be in an email you received from Elgato, or on the CD you received in the EyeTV box.
2) Launch that full version of EyeTV 3.
3) Open a web browser, and enter this link:
eyetv://checkforupdates?build=4495
4) EyeTV will update to the latest beta version, that will expire in late January, and will continue to work for Canadian users, and other beta testers.
If you are not able to follow these steps, perhaps because you no longer have access to a full version of EyeTV 3, then you can contact Elgato Support for further assistance.
We apologize for any inconvenience this rare beta update problem may cause.
