What's new in EyeConnect 1.6.2?

Snow Leopard Compatibility

EyeConnect 1.6.2 is fully compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Installation

After the installer has finished, the EyeConnect preference pane opens. After a short while you should see your digital media player on the network. The digital media player should now be able to see your Macintosh as a supported media server. You can control playback of all EyeTV recordings, videos, music, and photo using the remote control that came with your digital media player.

Try full functionality for 30 days — Audio only mode afterwards

EyeConnect is fully functional for 30 days. When the trial period ends, EyeConnect disables access to all devices. At this point, you need to choose whether to enter an EyeConnect activation key, purchase one, or continue using EyeConnect in audio only mode. Open the EyeConnect preference pane, click the Info tab and then the Activate button.

If you have an EyeConnect activation key, enter it now; otherwise, you may purchase an EyeConnect activation key by clicking the Buy Now button, or continue to use EyeConnect with your digital media player in audio only mode.

Troubleshooting

Due to Apple's restrictions, playing back music that has been purchased from the iTunes Music Store is not supported.

Consult the owner’s guide of your digital media player for setup assistance.

In general, all UPnP AV devices require that the Macintosh which runs EyeConnect and the player device both reside on the same local network and subnet. Generally, this means if you are setting up the player to use a wireless connection, and your Mac is connected to the network via Ethernet, you will need to ensure that your Airport or other Wi-Fi base station is set to bridge the wired and wireless networks.

If you do not see any devices, try stopping and restarting EyeConnect. Check whether the Mac OS X Firewall is running. If it is, you need to create a new access rule that opens up port 2170.

For Mac OS 10.4.x, open the Sharing System Preference pane and select the Firewall tab. Click New. In the next sheet, select Other from the Port Name dropdown menu, type 2170 in the Port Number field, and “EyeConnect” into the Description field. Click OK, then go to the EyeConnect preference pane and restart EyeConnect.

For Mac OS 10.5.x and Mac OS X 10.6.x, open the Security System Preference pane and select the Firewall tab. Add “Allow incoming connections” for the EyeConnect application located at /Library/Application Support/EyeConnect/EyeConnect.app.

Device Compatibility

Since any UPnP AV compatible devices will be recognized by EyeConnect, field reports from users with other devices than the ones listed below are especially welcome.

EyeConnect has been tested intensively with the following UPnP AV devices:

Buffalo LinkTheater PC-P3LWG/DVD
IO Data AV Link Player
D-Link DSM-320 MediaLounge
D-Link DSM-320 RD
GoVideo D2730
Netgear MP115
Netgear MP101
Philips Streamium SL400i
Philips Streamium MX6000i
Snazio* Net DVD CinemA HD
TerraTec Noxon 2

EyeConnect does not work properly with the following hardware devices:

Linksys WMLS11B
Omnifi Music DMS1
Roku Photobridge HD 1000 (UPnP Firmware 2.0.35 beta)
Sony RoomLink
Viewsonic Wireless Media Adapter

Known Issues

For Xbox 360, EyeConnect supports playback of music and photos, and file based playback of movie files whose format is already compatible with Xbox 360.

EyeTV MPEG-4 recordings do not play back on either the Philips Streamium devices, the D-Link DSM-320, the Netgear MP115, and the GoVideo D2730.

Fast forward/rewind does not work correctly for EyeTV recordings or movie files with the D-Link DSM-320 and the GoVideo D2730.

Only MP3 audio files will play with the Netgear MP101, Netgear MP115 and the GoVideo D2730.

The Buffalo Link Theater can play back HDTV 1080i and 720p recordings at 15 Mbps and lower. Higher bit rate recordings will not playback on this player without substantial problems.

The Snazio* Net DVD CinemA HD and the I-O Data AV Link Player can play back HDTV 1080i and 720p recordings at higher bitrates than 15 Mbps; however, the first few seconds play back with stuttering audio.
