Using EyeTV for iPhone / iPad / Live 3G with the Mac OS X Firewall
Solution If you have your Firewall enabled under OS X 10.5 or 10.6, and you want to use EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G, you will need to let OS X add both EyeTV and EyeConnect to the list of allowed applications.

EyeTV is the source of the video that's sent to the iPhone, and EyeConnect is the underlying technology from Elgato that actually performs the streaming and transport.

Automatic Add To Firewall

You can use these steps to automatically prepare your Firewall for EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G.

1) Restart your Mac.  This will ensure that the EyeTV and EyeConnect processes are properly installed and running.

2) Open the Security section of the OS X System Preferences, and turn your Firewall on (if it is not already on).

3) When you launch EyeTV, visit the iPhone section of the EyeTV Preferences, and turn iPhone Access off.

4) Visit the Sharing section of the EyeTV Preferences, and turn all options off.

5) Then, turn all Sharing and iPhone options on again.  After a few seconds, OS X will ask for permission to add EyeConnect.app to your Firewall.  Accept this offer, each time the message appears (it may appear up to 3 times).

Manual Add To Firewall

You can use these steps to manually prepare your Firewall for EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G:

1) Restart your Mac.  This will ensure that the EyeTV and EyeConnect processes are properly installed and running.

2) Open the Security section of the OS X System Preferences, and turn your Firewall on (if it is not already on).

3) Press the Advanced button.  If EyeConnect and EyeTV are not already added, you can use the "+" sign to do so.

You can find EyeConnect in this location: Hard Drive/Library/Application Support/EyeConnect

Under OS X 10.6, the Firewall setup should look like this:

The actual Firewall port that EyeTV uses is 2170.  You may also need to open that port if you have other firewalls (like in a router) somewhere on your network.

EyeTV for iPhone or Live3G problems when Firewall is on

If you find that EyeTV can't connect unless the Firewall is off, then please install EyeTV 3.3:

While EyeTV 3 is running, enter this URL into a web browser:

eyetv://checkforupdates?build=5851

That will let EyeTV download the newer 3.3 build (5851).  This build has helped users with a number of Firewall problems.
