EyeTV for iPhone / iPad / Live3G Troubleshooting: No EyeTV found on the network
Solution Network problems with EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G are an unusual event.

There are a few reasons why EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G can't find your Mac on the network:

1)
The EyeTV software may need to be launched.

Solution: EyeTV software needs to be running on your Mac, so that it can connect to EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G.

Your Mac also needs to be awake - the connection won't happen if your Mac is asleep.

2)
The EyeTV software may need to be updated.

Solution: While EyeTV is running, visit the EyeTV Menu, and select Check For Updates. That will allow you to download the latest EyeTV software, which may help with your problem.

EyeTV 3.2 software (or later) is needed to use EyeTV for iPhone or Live3G.  EyeTV 3.4 software (or later) is needed to use EyeTV for iPad .

3)
iPhone Access may need to be turned on.

Solution: Visit the EyeTV Menu, and select Preferences.  Choose the iPhone section, and then select "Enable access from EyeTV for iPhone."

That will allow EyeTV to connect to EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G, over a local network.  Other options, like "Use My EyeTV", are not required for the basic local network connection via Wi-Fi.

If it's already on, try turning off iPhone Access, then turn it on again - that may help EyeTV connect to EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G.

4) Your iPhone may need to login to a Wi-Fi network
.

Solution: Visit the Settings section of the iPhone (or iPod touch), and select Wi-Fi.  Choose the same Wi-Fi network that is connected to your Mac that is hosting EyeTV.

Make sure that your Mac and iPhone both are on the same subnet (local network segment, with similar IP addresses), or else they won't be able to connect.

5) Your Mac may need to be restarted
.

Solution: Visit the Apple Menu, and select Restart...

That will allow EyeTV (and EyeConnect) to re-establish all processes associated with EyeTV for iPhone, and can help get things working if problems happen right after you've installed EyeTV 3.2.

6) You can look for EyeTV as a Bonjour service.

To check to see if iPhone Access is transmitting on your network, you can also use a web browser like Camino or Safari.  They can detect Bonjour (automatic networking) services, and EyeTV uses that to connect to EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G.

In Safari, visit the Safari Menu, and select Preferences.   In the Bookmarks section, select Include Bonjour under the Collections category.

Next, visit the Bookmarks Menu, and select Show all Bookmarks.  Look in the Collections section for Bonjour, and see if your EyeTV content is available.

If it is listed, then you'll know that EyeTV is properly transmitting content as a Bonjour service.  The expectation is that you'll see the same service via EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G.

7) Your Firewall may need to be adjusted.

Solution: Visit the Security section of Mac OS X System Preferences, and select Firewall.  Add EyeTV and EyeConnect, so they have Allow Incoming Connections selected.

Under OS X 10.6, the Firewall setup should look like this:

You can find EyeConnect in this location: Hard Drive/Library/Application Support/EyeConnect

EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G needs to contact EyeTV, and the EyeConnect process that's installed automatically along with EyeTV.

EyeTV for iPhone/iPad and Live3G use two ports to connect: TCP 2170 (primary), and UDP 1900 (also used with My EyeTV).  If you have another software or hardware based router, make sure these ports are open.

At a test, you can try things with your OS X Firewall off.

If you find that EyeTV for iPhone/iPad or Live3G can't connect unless the Firewall is off, then please download EyeTV 3.3:

While EyeTV 3 is running, enter this URL into a web browser:

eyetv://checkforupdates?build=5848

That will let EyeTV download the newer 3.3 build (5848).  This build has helped users with a number of Firewall problems.
