Can I use an HDMI splitter with my Xbox 360 and Elgato Game Capture HD?
Solution Yes, you can use an HDMI splitter with a Xbox 360 and Elgato Game Capture HD.

That will allow you to:

• Play video games on your TV via HDMI.

• Record video games on your Mac or PC via Elgato Game Capture HD.

• Use your Xbox 360 to watch DVDs, or HDCP protected content, on your TV.

HDMI Splitter Setup

We have tested a setup using:

ViewHD 2 Port HDMI Splitter Amplifier

Other HDMI Splitters should work equally well, but we haven't tested them all.

To use this with your Xbox 360 and Elgato Game Capture HD, you'll need 3 HDMI cables.

1) Connect the Xbox 360 to the HDMI Splitter input, using an HDMI cable

2) Connect the first HDMI Splitter output to Elgato Game Capture HD, using an HDMI cable

3) Connect the second HDMI Splitter output to your TV, using an HDMI cable

HDMI Splitter Usage

To play an Xbox 360 video game, just launch it using your Xbox 360.  The live image will appear on your TV, and a delayed image will appear in Elgato Game Capture HD on your computer.

To play a video using your Xbox 360, just start it using your Xbox 360.  The live image will appear on your TV, and no image will appear on your computer.  Since the video content is HDCP protected, you won't be able to view or record it using Elgato Game Capture HD, but you can still watch it on your TV.
