In order to stream live TV over your 3G connection on your iPhone, you must use the Elgato Live3G web app rather than the EyeTV for iPhone native app that is sold in Apple's App Store. The native app will only stream on a wi-fi connection. The Live3G web app is free and is installed on your iPhone or iPod Touch using the following steps.

1. Launch the Safari web browser on your iPhone and enter this URL: https://live3g.eyetv.com

2. Press Go and once the page has finished loading, tap the + symbol at the bottom of the screen. This will bring up the bookmarking option buttons for Safari.

Tap "Add to Home Screen" and you will be presented with a screen for modifying the name that will appear beneath the icon on your iPhone. You will also see a preview of the icon.

3. After choosing the name that will appear, tap on the "Add" button in the upper-right of the screen. Safari will quit and take you back to the page on your Home Screen with the first open space and create the Live3G shortcut or "Web Clip".

Log into an administrative OS X user account before updating EyeTV

http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1258

If you are using an User account that doesn’t have System (or
Administrative) access, then EyeTV won’t have enough permissions to
read and/or write to its files. The end result of that is some of the
following behavior:

1) Each time you start EyeTV, you have to use the Setup Assistant again
2) Each time you start EyeTV, you have to scan for channels again
3) Each time you start EyeTV, your settings are not remembered
4) EyeTV may not wake up from sleep to record
5) You may have problems with the remote control

To resolve this problem, EyeTV needs to be able to read and write to
files in the System area of OS X. The easiest was to achieve this is
to set your particular User account to have Administrative access,
before you install or update EyeTV:

1) Open the OS X System Preferences
2) Choose the Accounts section
3) Select your account on the left side of the window, and choose “Allow user to administer this computer” at the bottom
4) Log out of your user account, and then log back in.
5) Install or update EyeTV

We are working on solutions to minimize the need for an account with
Admin access, but until all issues are resolved, please use the above
steps to resolve such problems.

I can't get EyeTV to work. Where do I start?

http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=824

The usual procedure for getting EyeTV to work is the following:

1. Install EyeTV by dragging the application from the CD that came with your unit (or from a disk image downloaded from our website) to your computer.

2. Hook up your video source to the EyeTV unit. If you're using cable, usually you'll use the RF/Coaxial input. If your using a VCR or DVD player, usually you'll use the A/V inputs : composite (yellow), S-Video, and red and white cables for audio.

3. If you use a cable box to view your image, then route your signal through it first, before you hook it up to EyeTV. You'll then need to change channels by using your cable box, not EyeTV.

4. Hook the USB or FireWire cable from EyeTV either directly to your Mac, or to a powered USB or FireWire hub with a minimum of other devices attached. If EyeTV doesn't get enough power or bandwidth over the USB or FireWire bus, instability can occur.

5. Run the EyeTV Setup Assistant. Make sure to select the correct input (cable, antenna, composite, S-Video) and to run the Auto-Tune process. Do any channels appear when you Auto-Tune? If the Setup Assistant doesn't appear, you can access it from EyeTV's Help menu.

6. After the Setup Assistant finishes, what happens? Not all EyeTV units have lights on them, but if yours does, what are the states of the lights on the EyeTV unit? Does an image appear in the LiveTV window? Can you change channels? If the setup doesn't work, contact us with the answers to the above questions.

How do I setup Clear QAM channels with EyeTV?

http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=7

Some new EyeTV tuners can be set for unencrypted digital cable (Clear QAM).

Clear QAM Channels Using EyeTV 3.3 (or later)

If you are using EyeTV 3.3 or later, then EyeTV should automatically find most of the Clear QAM channel names, during the Auto Tune process for Cable.

Those channels will automatically be assigned to use your Program Guide.

If any channels are not correctly identified, then you can use the steps listed in this article, under Manually Naming and Assigning Clear QAM Channels. That manual process may take up to a few minutes per channel.

Clear QAM Channels Using EyeTV 3.2.1 (or earlier)

If you are using EyeTV 3.2.1 or earlier then there may be many Clear QAM channels that EyeTV can’t identify.

You can use the steps listed in this article to manually name and assign those channels, under Manually Naming and Assigning Clear QAM Channels. That manual process may take up to a few minutes per channel.

Manually Naming and Assigning Clear QAM Channels

In order to see program information, you’ll need to go through those
manually and match them up with their names in the TV Guide guide. It’s
well worth the little effort, as you’ll end up with many more channels
to watch.

After you Auto Tune, visit the Channels section of the EyeTV Programs window. You’ll see three different types of entries:

• The channels which could be identified are at the top of the
listing and already have their EPG source set to TV Guide. Their
check-marks will be set to ‘on’ and they will show up in the Program
Guide window.
• Next you may see some channels which have names, but that could
not be automatically matched to entries in TV Guide. Their check-marks
will also be on, but they won’t show up in the Program Guide until you
match them up.
• Finally there will be channels with no names. These will be ‘unchecked’ initially.

TV Guide Setup

When identifying channels for TV Guide, it’s helpful to log into your your favorite web based Program Guide
account using a web browser. A free option is TVGuide.com. You can then look at the current schedule
for your area, which makes it a lot easier to figure out what a
particular program might be.

• Log in to the guide web site and add your cable provider’s
Digital Cable lineup to your account, then go to the Digital Cable
program listings grid.
• Go through all the un-matched channels, tuning to each one and
trying to identify it. Watch this channel’s content for a while until
you know which channel it actually is. Many channels show their name or
logo, which really helps.
• When you’ve identified a particular channel, select it in the list and choose the TV Guide entry in the EPG column.

• The TV Guide channel list will open. You can use the search function
at the top to narrow down the list if you like. Find the channel in the
list and select it. Click the Assign button.

• Repeat the process for all the unknown channels.

When you’re done, you should have program information for all your channels
