EyeTV

EyeTV 3.1 and higher are compatible with Snow Leopard, with minor problems.

EyeTV Versions 3.0 through 3.0.4 are not compatible with Snow Leopard.

Please update to the latest EyeTV version (3.2.1 or higher) before upgrading to Snow Leopard.

Elgato Video Capture 1.0 has no known issues.

Turbo.264 HD

Turbo.264 HD 1.0.2 may crash on launch when running in a user account with Standard permissions.

Turbo.264 HD 1.0.3 is fully compatible with Snow Leopard.

EyeTV does not support broadcast flags or other DRM measures

EyeTV doesn't support any broadcast flags or other methods of restricting the use of television programs.

Such methods have been encouraged by the television and movie industry - to prevent the recording or sharing of certain shows - but they are not required by law. Legislation does vary country by country, but at the present time there are no such restrictions in the locations where EyeTV is available.

Therefore, EyeTV and other Elgato software will ignore any flags or other voluntary DRM methods - if you can watch a program, you can record, edit or share it as you see fit.

Pay TV is a separate topic - in some countries you will need to authorize your EyeTV product to receive pay TV, like from satellite. In that case, you will need a CAM and decryption card, to be inserted into the EyeTV hardware. Once EyeTV is authorized to receive the content, you can watch, record, edit or share it as you see fit.

Please be aware that audio is a different story - there are many different DRM systems, and if your audio tracks are from the iTunes store, they are protected by the FairPlay system, which restricts some sharing and copying of files. In some occasions, that may mean that Elgato products can't do everything possible with such files.

Clicking a Freebox channel opens the wrong one and Freebox EPG data are shifted in EPG

Sometimes, Free adds channels to the listing, or modifies the order of channels. This causes the "multiposte" feature of Freebox to be out of sync with the TV signal. As EyeTV uses the "multiposte" feature, this leads to the following problems in EyeTV:

- Clicking a Freebox channel opens the wrong one

- Freebox channels are shifted in EPG

To solve this problem proceed as follows:

- Set the Program Guide type for all channels to "none" (mark all channels and then use one triangle in the EPG column to toggle them)

- Quit EyeTV completely

- Depending on your settings, delete the file /Library/Application Support/EyeTV/EyeTVEPG.db and/or the file /Users//Library/Application Support/EyeTV/EyeTVEPG.db

- Empty the trash

- Reset your Freebox (unplug the power two times). If your Freebox consists of two boxes (Freebox v5 or higher), reset both of them.

- Restart EyeTV

- Set all channels back to the Program Guide type you normally use

Do Elgato's analogue TV tuners sold in France also work in overseas departments, collectivities and territories of France?

As of EyeTV 3.0.2, EyeTV Hybrid and EyeTV 250 Plus support overseas departments, collectivities and territories of France (that use SECAM K TV standard instead of SECAM L TV standard used in the European territory of France).

Older Elgato analogue TV tuners or tuners from other manufacturers have not been tested and may not work.

Does EyeTV support teletext?

EyeTV supports Teletext. EyeTV does not support MHEG-5, which is a legacy standard that is used by Freeview in the UK only. Unfortunately, the term "digital Teletext" is sometimes used as a synonym for MHEG-5, but the two are completely independent standards that have no relationship with each other.

What is a digital TV recorder?

A digital TV recorder (DVR) is just like a video casssette recorder (VCR) that doesn't need tapes. A DVR records video to your hard drive. You can do things with a DVR you can't do with a VCR, like pause live TV, quickly jump ahead or back, or watch one of your recorded shows while recording a different show.

How many channels can I view at the same time using the Freebox?

You can only view 2 channels at the same time, and this independently of how you view the channels. This means that you can view for example:

- two channels on EyeTV using the network connection
- one channel on EyeTV and one on VLC
- one channel on EyeTV and one on your TV (using the A/V outputs)
- etc.
