http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=3716

EyeTV One does not support the reception of satellite signals, in any way

It does not support direct reception of DirecTV or Dish Network in North America.

EyeTV Hybrid and EyeTV 250 Plus can be used with a satellite receiver. Connect the analog outputs of that
satellite receiver (like composite or S-Video) to EyeTV Hybrid or EyeTV 250 Plus. Then,
change channels manually using the satellite receiver's remote.

You
can also use the analog tuner input from your satellite receiver.
Connect that to EyeTV Hybrid or EyeTV 250 Plus, switch it to analog mode, then Auto Tune
using "Antenna". You will most likely find the satellite receiver's
signal on channel 3 or 4. Then, change channels manually using the
satellite receiver's.

EyeTV Hybrid or EyeTV 250 Plus can control many satellite receivers in North America, to change channels, when an additional IR Blaster is in use. These two articles will give more information about IR Blaster purchase and setup.

Does EyeTV One have a MPEG encoder?

http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=3715

EyeTV One does not have a MPEG encoder.

EyeTV One has a digital tuner, that can receive digital antenna (ATSC). That tuner does not encode; it receives pre-encoded MPEG video directly from
broadcasters, via an antenna. That content is in either SDTV or HDTV
format.

If you are looking for a MPEG encoder for analog, EyeTV 250 Plus is an excellent choice. It can create MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video, using a hardware encoding chip.

Here is how EyeTV Hybrid compares to EyeTV One.

For the sake of this comparison, only the latest EyeTV Hybrid (2009, FM Radio) is considered.

Analog Connections

EyeTV One cannot receive any analog signals.

EyeTV Hybrid can accept analog SDTV video inputs:

1) Antenna - using tuner input
2) Unscrambled Analog Cable (channels 1-124) - using tuner input
3) Premium Cable (using cable box first) - change channels using cable box
4) Digital Cable (using cable box first) - change channels using cable box
5) Satellite (using receiver first) - change channels using satellite receiver
6) DVD/VCR/Camcorder (via A/V inputs) - S-Video or composite
7) FM Radio - using tuner input

If
you connect a cable box or satellite receiver up to EyeTV Hybrid, then you will see all non-HD channels. You'd change
channels using your cable box or satellite receiver remote.

EyeTV Hybrid and EyeTV One use built-in USB 2.0.

EyeTV Hybrid's recording is done in software by your Mac, and the
available resolution depends on your Mac. That means you need a very
fast Mac to record in best quality with EyeTV Hybrid.

EyeTV Hybrid has 3 recording presets:

Video CD
Standard (DVD 120 min) (single G5 or Intel processor required)
High (DVD 90 min) (dual G5 or Intel processor required)

EyeTV One receives pre-encoded
digital video, in SDTV and HDTV formats, from digital antenna (ATSC). The resolution is chosen by the broadcaster, and is received as-is by EyeTV.
