Losing video with some Aston CAMs when switching the audio track on a PayTV channel

http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=3208

When using an Aston Seca 1.05 CAM, switching the audio track on a PayTV channel may result in loosing the video (instead, "Encrypted" will be displayed on the screen).

This is a known limitation of using this CAM with EyeTV. The same problem may be experienced with some other Aston CAMs. The problem won't appear if the CAM is used with a set top box.

Workaround 1: pause the live TV for at least 4 seconds and then press the "play" button, video should be back.

Workaround 2: quit and restart EyeTV.

As the problem is related to the CAM, replacing the CAM by another model from another manufacturer may solve the problem definitely.

Can FireWire EyeTV products work with FireWire 800?

http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=3202

Some newer Macs (like MacBook Pros) only come with FireWire 800 ports.

This faster FireWire 800 interface can also be connected to slower FireWire 400 devices.

When both types of FireWire are connected together, the bus will use the lower speed of FireWire 400 to transmit data.

You can use FireWire 400 devices with FireWire 800 ports, if you buy inexpensive adapter cables.

The adapter cable has two different connectors on each end - one is for
FireWire 400, and the other is a FireWire 800 connection. Each type of
port has a different shape, so it's not possible to mix them up.

For recent Macs released in 2009, you may also need to use a power supply with the EyeTV product, in order for it to be detected via the FireWire 800 port.

The following EyeTV units can be used with FireWire 400 ports, or with FireWire 800 ports (and an adapter cable):

EyeTV 200
EyeTV 300
EyeTV 310
EyeTV 400
EyeTV 410
EyeTV 500
EyeTV 610
Any EyeTV compatible FireWire hardware (like FireDTV)

These EyeTV products will work exactly the same no matter what FireWire connection is used. The video quality will be the same.

EyeTV devices and visual exterior indicators: What device has LEDs and what do they mean?

http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1231

This FAQ entry covers only a common range of devices supported in EyeTV.

External devices usually display activity by flashing or blinking one or multiple LEDs.

Grey box shaped devices have dual LED in the front, to display activity (green), launching (yellow) or red (standby or error) states. Those models are EyeHome, EyeTV 200, EyeTV 300, EyeTV 310, EyeTV 400, EyeTV 410, EyeTV 500 and EyeTV 610.

Brick devices looking like a shrunken Mac Mini (aluminum exterior, rounded edges, white bottom and top) and similar Terratec products have a blue LED in the front. Blue indicates proper powered devices. The devices are Elgato for DTT (Terratec T2), EyeTV EZ (Terratec Cinergy 400), EyeTV 250 (Terratec Cinergy PVR 800e, 850), EyeTV 250 Plus, EyeTV Sat, EyeTV Netstream devices, and Terratec Cinergy S. The Cinergy S, EyeTV Sat, EyeTV 250 and 250 Plus devices require a power supply. The EyeTV HD has a green LED to indicate it is receiving power and an Orange LED to indicate when the device is in use.

Elgatos stick type devices do not have a visual indicator. There is no visual external indication to display activity on Elgato or Hauppauge labeled devices (EyeTV DTT Stick, EyeTV DTT Deluxe, EyeTV Hybrid international, EyeTV Hybrid US, EyeTV Diversity, EyeTV One, Hauppauge Nova T Stick, Hauppauge WinTV HVR 900, 930, 950, 5000). Most of these sticks feature one or multiple holes to catch IR signals from a bundled remote control, but these holes are commonly mistaken as an LED.

One exception is the EyeTV Hybrid (2008 North American model) which does have two indicator lights on one edge.

Elgato Turbo.264 does not have an LED or any other connector than the USB plug on the stick. Elgato Turbo.264 HD does have an LED that illuminates to indicate when the stick is in use.

Products from partners, like for example Terratec and Pinnacle USB stick devices, usually have a LED on the stick. If this LED is offline, please verify that the USB 2.0 port on the Mac is operational.

Does EyeTV 410 have a CI or SmartCard slot?

http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=886

Yes, it does. The CI (Common Interface) lets you receive PayTV DVB-T on the Mac. To receive PayTV via EyeTV 410, users only need a compatible combination of CAM (Conditional Access Module) and a PayTV subscription card (SmartCard) from a provider that supports standard CI receivers.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
1) Elgato cannot give any info regarding compatibility between CAMs and subscription cards.
2)
Before buying a CAM and a subscription card, check with the CAM
manufacturer and/or your PayTV service provider that your subscription
card can be used with a CAM. Some providers only allow the use of their
subscription cards with their proprietary set-top-boxes; in this case,
it is not possible to receive PayTV using an EyeTV 410.

Which EyeTV products support HDTV?

http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=29

There are several HDTV formats that EyeTV products can support:

HDTV over Antenna (ATSC) in North America

EyeTV 250 Plus
EyeTV Hybrid
EyeTV One
EyeTV 500
TVMini HD
HDHomeRun
Any ATSC product that supports EyeTV

HDTV over Antenna (DTT/Freeview/DVB-T) for International Users

EyeTV 250 Plus INT
EyeTV Hybrid INT
EyeTV Hybrid INT (2008 model)
EyeTV Diversity
EyeTV for DTT
EyeTV DTT Deluxe
EyeTV 410
FireDTV T/CI
Any DVB-T product that supports EyeTV

HDTV over unencrypted digital cable (Clear QAM) in North America

EyeTV 250 Plus (2008 model)
EyeTV 500
EyeTV Hybrid (2008 model)
EyeTV Hybrid (2009 model)
HDHomeRun
TVMini HD
Any Clear QAM product that supports EyeTV

HDTV over unencrypted digital cable (DVB-C) for International Users

EyeTV Hybrid INT (2008 model)
EyeTV 610
FireDTV C/CI
Any DVB-C product that supports EyeTV

HDTV over satellite (DVB-S/S2) for International Users

EyeTV Sat
EyeTV 310
FireDTV S2
Any DVB-S/2S product that supports EyeTV

HDTV over Component

EyeTV HD
Hauppauge HD PVR

The International standard used to broadcast HDTV in MPEG-4 AVC and H.264 is supported as of EyeTV 2.5.

Please
note that Clear QAM represents only a few, random channels out of
hundreds of digital cable channels. There is no guarantee that you will
receive any one channel, or even any channels, when using a Clear QAM
tuner with your particular cable service. Clear QAM support does work,
but it will not replicate your full cable lineup.

ATSC and Clear QAM are formats primarily used in North America, and not in Europe or Australia.

Two EyeTV compatible products can receive HDTV from an external receiver, like a
cable box or satellite receiver. One is the Hauppauge HD
PVR - with EyeTV 3.1 or higher, it can work and receive HDTV
from component cables. The EyeTV HD, used with EyeTV 3.4 or higher software, also receives HDTV from a cable box or satellite receiver via component cables.

EyeTV
products with analog inputs can receive standard and premium channels
from a cable box or satellite receiver, in SDTV format.

To play
full resolution HDTV, you need any Core Duo Mac, a Core 2 Duo Mac, or a
Dual G5. A slower Mac will play the recording, but scaled down from
HDTV resolution to 1/4 resolution (similar to DVD quality).
